Forrest Gump – A True Teacher
By Joanie McMahon PsyD (ABD)
Forrest Gump is truly one of my favorite movie characters. He is an example of a man who goes easily and effortlessly with the flow of his life.
In this movie, you will notice that Forrest plays out the entire movie in pure positive emotion. You will also notice that he does not let outer circumstances decide what he will think.
An example of this is with the love of his life, Jenny. He met Jenny when he was a young boy and despite all her efforts to dismiss Forrest, his love for her holds fast. He never wavers from this deep love.
Knowing that we are vibrational beings, we can understand how Forrest Gump draws to himself this amazing life. His positive emotional state draws to him the most adventurous & abundant of circumstances.
In an interview I watched with Tom Hanks about the Forrest Gump character, he said that he had never played a character with so little ego. Forrest lived from his heart and went with the flow of what happened to him.
Life for Forrest was not a struggle; it was an effortlessly moving from one place in time to the next.
Now I understand that Forrest Gump has been given a label of autism but let’s say such a label did not exist and we just watched this man for who he really is, pure positive love.
Forrest Gump is a man who went with the flow of his life, enjoying his friends, his mother, his Jenny, his running experience, his war experience etc.
He did not push against anything (except that guy who hurt his Jenny 😀).
He may not be a deliberate attractor of good things, but he has no resistance and thus the universe yields to him over and over again great feeling things. Thank you, Tom Hanks, for playing this character so well. Here is a video I made speaking more about my appreciation.
